Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo are set to return to Manchester United within the next few weeks and re-enter Erik ten Hag’s squad.

Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the United States of America was one that drew mixed outcomes – and two negative consequences of the summer were long-term injuries to both Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo.

Erik ten Hag has been without either player for the entirety of the 2023/24 campaign so far, with the two players both names on the club’s significant injury list.

At a time where Ten Hag has had significant problems in his right-wing position with both Jadon Sancho, Mason Mount, and Antony unavailable, Amad has missed a perfect chance to break into the team – but this should not be an issues for much longer.

It was revealed just under two weeks ago that Mainoo, who has been undergoing training on grass of late, should be back to full fitness within the next two weeks, which theoretically puts him available for the coming weekend’s Old Trafford tie against Brentford in the Premier League.

Mainoo was spotted training with the United squad on Monday afternoon.

Tuesday evening’s Galatasaray Champions League fixture will likely come too soon for the talented midfielder, and although he could be available for Brentford, the chances are that he will be kept out of any significant role with the team until after the international break.

A similar story is told for the fitness of Amad – the latest reports suggest he will not be available until after the international break.

This therefore puts Sunday 21 October as the most likely return date for both players. If both Amad and Mainoo are able to focus on regaining their full fitness levels over the course of the international break, they will be able to hit the ground running once the senior players return from international duty and the domestic season resumes.

This re-addition to the squad will come at a welcome time for Ten Hag, with the club starting to approach the gruelling winter and New Year schedule.
