Toby Collyer has faced a setback at Hull City, following his January loan move from Manchester United.
Toby Collyer made 13 appearances for Manchester United during the 2024/25 season but was loaned out in the summer, with the club keen to see him get regular minutes in professional football.
Collyer joined West Bromwich Albion in the summer, making a total of 12 appearances before that loan spell was cut short in January.
Collyer’s spell at The Hawthorns was hampered as he suffered a calf injury, which kept him out of action for two months.
After being recalled in January, the young midfielder was sent back out on loan to Hull City, where he has made just one appearance so far and has now suffered yet another setback.
Collyer set to miss ‘a couple of weeks’
According to Hull Live, Collyer is set to be sidelined for the next couple of weeks after picking up a hamstring injury in training.
Given the fact that he’s been loaned out twice in one season and has now suffered a second injury, it’s no surprise that Collyer has struggled to find form so far throughout this campaign.
Across both loan spells, Collyer has played a mere 267 minutes of football in the Championship this season, the equivalent of just three full 90s.
Collyer is expected to return to action at the end of the month. There will still be 13 games of the Championship season left by that point, and Collyer will be hoping to finish the season strongly after a disappointing few months.
Does Collyer have a future at United?
Manchester United are set to carry out a rebuild of the midfield during the summer transfer window. It has been confirmed that Casemiro will leave when his contract expires at the end of June, and Manuel Ugarte has been desperately disappointing. One can imagine United would be happy to let him leave should a suitable offer arrive.

At 22 years old, this was a crucial season for Collyer’s development, and had he performed well in the Championship this season, it would’ve given Jason Wilcox and United’s recruitment department something to think about going into the summer.
He has struggled, though, and a permanent departure seems likely.
United will likely sign two midfielders this summer, with the club linked to the likes of Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Angelo Stiller and others. Should two new midfielders arrive, it’s hard to see where Collyer fits into United’s long-term plans.
