Timothy Fosu-Mensah predicts that “good things” will happen to “quality” Manchester United star next season

Former Manchester United player Timothy Fosu-Mensah has revealed his stance on his former teammate, Marcus Rashford.

Marcus Rashford made his debut for Manchester United over nine years ago in the Europa League, scoring twice for Louis van Gaal’s side against FC Midtjylland.

Just three days later, Rashford again netted two goals to seal United’s win over Arsenal, also claiming an assist to contribute to all three goals in the 3-2 victory.

Despite coming through as a striker, he spent most of his Red Devils career on the left-hand side of a front three, excelling when given the freedom to make runs from the flank to the centre.

The once fan favourite found himself on loan at Aston Villa for the second half of last season, impressing fans of the Premier League side from centre forward or on the wing.

Rashford now appears set for a move away from Old Trafford, perhaps the best thing for his career, given the pressure he faces while wearing a red shirt.

Fosu-Mensah praises Rashford’s quality

Speaking to The Independent while spending the summer as a free agent, Timothy Fosu-Mensah said: “Good things will happen to the club and to the players,” naming his former teammate Rashford especially.

“I just want him to be happy. Everybody just wants him to be happy. The most important things [are] for him to feel good, for him to feel happy.

“Look, the quality is definitely there. Nobody needs to say anything about this quality, because he’s a top player.”

Fosu-Mensah added that he is hopeful for United’s success under Rúben Amorim: “I have analysed the manager and I have seen a little bit how he plays and what he wants from his players.”

“Jeremiah St Juste from Sporting Lisbon is a good friend of mine, and he had great words for the manager, so I’m positive that United brought in a good manager.”

Rashford to return to striking success

Despite being younger when he played there, Rashford arguably enjoyed the best part of his career while playing through the middle, with the freedom to run in behind frequently.

Even under Erik ten Hag, Rashford’s best season came when rotating with Wout Weghorst as the centre forward, as the Dutchman dropped into midfield either from the start or during the game.

At Aston Villa, the English forward played as both a left winger and as a striker, but his next move could see him return to playing as the centre forward week in week out.

Barcelona has been the club most linked to Rashford, with Raphina and Lamine Yamal on the wing. If he does move to Catalonia, United’s No. 10 could be forced to play up front.
