Manchester United won 1-0 against Luton Town at Old Trafford as they made it four wins in their last five Premier League fixtures.

It is a positive turnaround in league results amidst an unfortunate Champions League defeat on Wednesday against Copenhagen. Erik ten Hag still must look for improvements in the performances of his team, however.

This game provided an overview of a United side low on confidence. They dominated the majority of proceedings but should’ve won by three or four if they converted their chances.

Three players stood out for the hosts in this fixture.

Victor Lindelof (CB)

Victor Lindelof was the man who provided the finishing touch when United needed it. After a chaotic set-piece reaction in the box, the defender was the first to react to the second ball and made sure to keep his attempt on target.

Lindelof’s second-half performance was one player who certainly looked confident. He was less busy in the first half but offered a solid defensive display all-round.

Harry Maguire (CB)

The Sweden international’s partner in the centre of defence continued his own positive form with a Man of the Match display at Old Trafford.

Maguire was United’s main progressor throughout the game and his long balls to the flanks were often the best route for the Reds to threaten the Luton backline.

Mason Mount (CM)

Mount appeared off the bench in the first half after Christian Eriksen was forced off through injury.

Apart from a loose pass in his own third, which he then went onto win back, Mount was extremely positive in the middle of the pitch. He offered overlapping runs wide, interceptions in defensive areas, and most importantly, a cool head on the ball.

In a team where many aren’t looking for that extra pass, Mount received the ball on the edge of the box and passed wide for Marcus Rashford, who could then put a dangerous ball into the box which led to Lindelof’s goal.

The England international did all of the right things for Ten Hag to start him when the team returns from the international break.
