Manchester United’s under-18s won 1-0 against Derby County at Old Trafford in their FA Youth Cup third-round clash on Tuesday evening.

It was a well-contested affair, with both sides creating chances throughout the game at the Theatre of Dreams, but United came out on top.

Second-half substitute Ethan Williams slotted the ball into the back of the net after 76 minutes following Ethan Wheatley’s initial shot being saved.

Adam Lawrence’s side showed impressive game management in the closing stages to secure their place in the fourth-round against Swindon Town.

Below, UtdDistrict have highlighted three of the standout players for United in the cup clash.

Jack Fletcher

Jack Fletcher was the pick for Man of the Match after an excellent performance in the middle of the park. Darren Fletcher’s son mimicked some of his father’s cool, calm and collected moments in the engine room with his passing and awareness.

His first-half display was memorable, with a beautiful nutmeg and pinpoint cross to Jayce Fitzgerald being the highlight. In the second period, he was slightly quieter but still managed to pick out the pass of the game to Ashton Missin on the right flank with a half-volley in behind.

James Scanlon

James Scanlon played the decisive pass to create the goal for United after a busy afternoon on the left flank.

The wide man consistently looked to test his full-back and also aided his side in defensive situations. He was eventually rewarded when his ball through led to Williams’ winner.

Harry Amass

Harry Amass showed an impressive display at left-back as he linked up very well with his teammates going forward and showed maturity in his play throughout the game.

He was challenged defensively, and whilst he allowed his winger a couple of opportunities, Amass mostly dealt with the threat well.
