Three Manchester United stars issue Rúben Amorim backing statement amid player ‘reservations’ about his formation

Three Manchester United stars have issued a statement of public support for Rúben Amorim amid reports that some players have reservations about his 3-4-3 formation.

Rúben Amorim’s future has been called into question after Manchester United fell to a dismal defeat in the Europa League against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening.

With the Old Trafford outfit sitting 16th in the Premier League table, United had all their eggs in one basket with their quest for Europa League glory, only to fall short at the final hurdle with a dismal performance in Bilbao.

With the loss comes no European football for the club next season, which sees United hit with around £80 million in financial losses and penalty clauses within current contracts. At the same time, the transfer market has become a little bit harder to navigate.

United is still expected to conclude a deal for Matheus Cunha in the coming week, although their pursuits of Liam Delap and Viktor Gyökeres have become harder.

United players have reservations about Amorim’s system

Amorim has been staunch in his stance that he will not budge from his philosophy and tactics at Old Trafford, and will be sticking by his 3-4-3 formation and system.

However, according to the Daily Mail, this has caused a bit of a stir in United’s dressing room, with players currently split over whether Amorim’s ideas will be able to bring long-term success to Old Trafford.

The report, from Chris Wheeler, states that “a number of other players feel the 40-year-old is too over-confident in his approach, and cannot understand why he puts so much faith in a playing system that is not suited to the squad he inherited in November.”

Further, one club insider, who remained anonymous, claimed, “He’s not going to change the way he plays, and the players aren’t happy about that; it’s just not working.”

Three players offer Amorim public support

Despite the claims that some players have reservations about Amorim’s long-term success, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, and Bruno Fernandes have all come out with public statements of support for the United boss.

“We just agreed that he’s the right man. He has done a lot of good things,” club captain Fernandes said after the final. “We know that the manager is looked at by the results. Obviously we see more than that as players.

“It’s not my decision but I do think the manager is the right one and I don’t think that there will be a better person to do the job. I know it’s difficult to understand that. But I still do think that he’s the right man to lead the club.

“I do think that the club is in a situation where it’s easier to get a different one in because the results haven’t been there. But as my other teammates said, and I repeat myself, I do think he’s the right man.”

Dalot backed up the words of his compartiot, stating “I’m 100 per cent sure that he’s the right man for us because I see it every day, the standards that he has, what he demands from us, the view that he has for the club, for the players, for the coaching staff.”

His fellow defender Shaw echoed these sentiments. “He knows what he needs to change,” the former England international said. “I think that’s why Ruben is 100 per cent the right person.”

Amorim is sure to stay in charge of United this summer even though the club do not have European football next season, and is expected to be backed in the transfer market this summer amid a mass-exodus of players deemed unfit to play for United.
