Three Manchester United players who will benefit from Ruben Amorim’s appointment
Ruben Amorim is set to become Manchester United’s new manager after the club sacked Erik ten Hag earlier this week.
Manchester United confirmed the decision to sack Erik ten Hag on Monday morning and are in advanced negotiations to secure Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim as his replacement.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has taken charge as interim manager for the upcoming game against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup but Amorim may be in place for the weekend’s Premier League outing against Chelsea.

The Portuguese manager will bring a different tactical approach to Ten Hag and so there could be multiple players who benefit from the changes made at Old Trafford.
In this article, UtdDistrict have looked at three United players in particular who could benefit under the new manager’s appointment.
Manuel Ugarte
Manuel Ugarte has had a difficult start to life at United but could not have wished for a better coach to come in for his future.
The Uruguayan midfielder excelled at Sporting under the Portuguese manager and he already knows exactly how to get the best of the 23-year-old.
During his two seasons under the 39-year-old manager, Ugarte made 85 appearances and played a key role in Amorim’s system.
He departed for PSG after the 2022/23 campaign but Ugarte previously suggested that he would like to be managed by Amorim again, and it looks like his wish will be coming true.
Ugarte said: “We’ve spoken about things that aren’t related to football. I really like him and have learnt a lot with him. I hope that in the future, he can be my coach again.”
Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire had been able to claw his way back into contention to play before suffering injury earlier this month.
He looked certain to leave the club last summer and his position at United isn’t exactly strong right now.
However, the English defender has great experience playing in a back-three formation for England and the extra centre-back in Amorim’s desired system would provide him with more game opportunities.
While he might not be first-choice, Maguire could make a bigger impact than he would have ever done under Ten Hag, who clearly preferred others to the 31-year-old.
Rasmus Højlund
Amorim helped build Viktor Gyökeres into one of the most threatening strikers in Europe and he will be hoping to do the same for Rasmus Højlund.
The Danish striker has already made positive strides since Ten Hag brought him to the club in 2023 but has a lot of room to grow.
At Old Trafford, Højlund has not often been able to stretch his legs with runs in behind or towards the flanks. Usually he has been out of the game, battling up front.
Under Amorim, you would expect the 21-year-old to be able to offer some of the direct play that people saw more at Atalanta and during stints at United so far.
