Three INEOS transfer targets who perfectly fit Ruben Amorim’s style for Man United
Ruben Amorim has been announced as Manchester United’s new head coach and he will need new signings to help fit his style.
Manchester United confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim last week following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.
The Portuguese head coach will take charge of the team on 11 November and he will have his work cut out to make the team work well in his new system.
Amorim will certainly look to platform some of the current stars in the team who have been misused, with there being potential for much-improved performances from many players.
However, the new head coach will undoubtably need United to go into the transfer market for signings who will fit his system and the requirements he demands.
INEOS have already been looking at targets–both from the summer and since then–who could be great fits for the plans Amorim has at Old Trafford.
Jarrad Branthwaite
Jarrad Branthwaite has been a major target for INEOS since they took charge and two bids were made for the Everton centre-back in the summer transfer window.
The left-sided centre-back has the athleticism and on-ball ability to deal with the responsibilities of a wide centre-back in Amorim’s system.
We have seen, especially in the game against Manchester City, how much trust Amorim has in his centre-backs to defend the wide zones as the wingbacks push up.
This may be an area where Lisandro Martínez struggles, although he would be extremely suitable to the in-possession demands the head coach has.
With three starting central defenders, United will need to make quality additions in the position while there remains doubt over the futures of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf and Jonny Evans.
Alvaro Fernandez
Alvaro Fernandez left United to join Benfica in the summer on a permanent transfer after spending the back-end of last season on loan there.
It has been well reported that United have a buyback clause inserted for the Spaniard worth around £16 million and there have been many calls for him to return.
Fernandez has excelled as a wingback in his short playing career so far and would suit the new three-at-the-back formation Amorim wants to implement.
At United, there aren’t many players that could play that left wingback role and there are injury concerns around Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
For a modest fee, it makes great sense for the club to bring Fernandez back under Amorim.
Eberechi Eze
Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze has been linked with a United move in recent months and could be a player the club target in the future.
The England international could commend a large fee due to his importance to Palace but if a deal was to be made, he seems to suit the type of player Amorim may be looking for at United.
The 39-year-old head coach looks to play two attacking midfield players behind a no.9 and at Sporting they almost look like a mix between wingers and no.10s.
Being able to link up in tight spaces, drop slightly deeper and feed the striker are just some of the attributes he looks to want in that profile–all of which Eze fits into.
Most importantly, the 26-year-old has the ball carrying ability that is scarce in the United squad. Amorim will want his team to have players able to drive with the ball centrally which is not something most current United players are blessed with.
Despite having a slow start to the season with Palace, the playmaker would suit the way Amorim wants to play but a heavy price tag might determine whether a move materialises.
