“No one gives more…” – Manchester United outcast tipped for key role under Ruben Amorim
One Manchester United outcast has been tipped for a key role to play under the club’s new head coach Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United announced last week that Ruben Amorim would be stepping in as the new manager after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal.
The Portuguese coach will stay at Sporting Lisbon for their final two matches before the international break and is set to start his role at Manchester on November 11.
There is plenty of excitement among fans about his appointment due to his success in Portugal. Fans are also anticipating a change in style.
Amorim is well-known for using a 3-4-3 system and it is likely that he uses that shape at Old Trafford, which could provide new chances for different players in the squad.
Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martínez are likely to become the favoured choices for the wide centre-back roles, while Matthijs de Ligt is expected to play in the position between them.
However, former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp has suggested that Harry Maguire could have a key role to play under the new boss.
Maguire, currently unavailable due to injury, had a resurgence last season which saw many fans supporting him after dealing with such adversity beforehand.
The centre-back has previously excelled in a back three formation with England and will be hoping to prove himself to Amorim in the coming months.
Redknapp believes that Maguire’s mentality could be one of the main reasons why Amorim can rely on him, and he adds that he would be ‘amazed’ if the Portuguese manager doesn’t prioritise getting him into the team.
“I wanted to find the players I could rely on, just as Amorim has to at United. And I’d be amazed if Harry Maguire isn’t top of that list,” said Redknapp.
“Harry didn’t always have the easiest of rides under Erik ten Hag — and that’s putting it mildly — and a lot of money was spent on new central defenders.
But Maguire kept his head down throughout it all, didn’t cause a fuss, waited for his chance and always gave 100 per cent when it arrived.
“There might be more glamorous names at United, but no one gives more, wants to win more, or cares quite as much.”
