Thomas Tuchel has rejected the potential opening of the Manchester United manager’s job following a meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag’s job as Manchester United manager is on the line as INEOS assess whether the Dutchman has done enough in the last two seasons to warrant staying on at Old Trafford.

Following poor performances across all competitions, United were knocked out of the Champions League before Christmas and finished eighth in the Premier League table. However, an FA Cup final victory over Manchester City gives him a fighting chance.

Ratcliffe and his INEOS team are currently undertaking a ‘season review’ surrounding the club. This will conclude with a decision on Ten Hag’s future, although the media has repeatedly clarified that there is no time limit on when this decision will be made.

According to Fabrizio Romano, former Bayern Munich boss Tuchel is no longer planning on taking the United job. He wants to take a break after leaving Bavaria this summer.

Tuchel is said to have decided not to continue in talks with United after meeting with the club in recent weeks. With this meeting mentioned, German journalist Christian Falk revealed earlier on Sunday afternoon that Ratcliffe met with Tuchel in person.

It is claimed that Ratcliffe and Tuchel met last Tuesday in Monaco, where the British billionaire resides. Tuchel is said to have explained his projected plans and ideas regarding the United manager job to Ratcliffe.

Falk explained that the German manager told Ratcliffe he felt he could get United’s sporting issues, such as underperforming players like Jadon Sancho and Mason Mount, “back on track” at Old Trafford.

Tuchel reportedly used the example of Antonio Rüdiger at Chelsea as succeeding in getting players with high potential performing to top levels following dips in form – Rüdiger won the Champions League with Real Madrid earlier this month.

In the last three months, those such as England boss Gareth Southgate, former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank have been routinely linked to the role.
