Thomas Frank plotting Bryan Mbeumo revenge as Tottenham initiate new chase for £70m Man Utd target

Tottenham seem to be planning their Bryan Mbeumo revenge as Thomas Frank plans to swoop in and secure a £70 million Manchester United target.

As Manchester United aim to return to the top of the Premier League, they are facing challenges with their summer acquisitions.

Despite getting off to the perfect start with Matheus Cunha, they have since struggled to attract the calibre of players that they are after.

Ruben Amorim’s pursuit of a striker has proved difficult so far, whilst their move for Bryan Mbeumo appears to have hit some bumps in the road.

This being said, Tottenham Hotspur could be set to anger their Europa League final opponents once more, as they weigh up an approach for a £70 million-rated defender.

Tottenham weigh up Branthwaite bid

Having pipped the Red Devils to European success in May and now looking to sway Mbeumo to North London, Tottenham have proved a thorn in the side of United recently.

According to Daily Mail reports, the Lilywhites are now weighing up an approach for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, who has been on the United radar for over a year.

United saw multiple offers in the region of £50 million rejected last year for the English centre back, who has been a revelation in the past couple of seasons for Everton. It has been previously claimed that United’s board saw Branthwaite as the perfect player for Amorim.

Branthwaite has attracted many suitors with his performances, with Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea all keeping a close eye on him.

Despite the interest, former United manager and current Everton boss David Moyes has stated that his star player is not for sale. However, bids in the region of £70 million could persuade the club to sell due to Profit and Sustainability Rules looming large.

Do United still need Branthwaite?

Unfortunately for United, the Daily Mail report states that Branthwaite is keen to make the step up to Champions League football, which Amorim’s side narrowly missed out on.

The Red Devils seem to be rightfully prioritising their attacking shortcomings this summer, which likely means that a £70 million defensive acquisition is out of the question anyway.

Amorim’s defence was the least of his concerns last season, even despite a plethora of injuries. Matthijs De Ligt has impressed, Harry Maguire has resurged, and Ayen Heaven ha broken through to help limit the damage of a disappointing campaign.

On this note, Branthwaite isn’t really a necessity for the Reds, as they will have to be very smart regarding how they spend their budget this summer.
