Third star says “yes” to replacing “useless” player at Manchester United after Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo – Fabrizio Romano

According to Fabrizio Romano, a third player has now said yes to joining Manchester United this summer following Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Manchester United are said to be weighing up a move for a new goalkeeper this summer, as Rúben Amorim continues to rebuild the spine of his team at Old Trafford.

With Matheus Cunha already through the door and increasing confidence around securing Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Amorim is also aiming to bolster the midfield and attacking options.

Meanwhile, questions remain over André Onana’s future at the club. The 29-year-old has shown flashes of quality over his two seasons with United but has struggled to find consistency, sparking talk of a potential replacement should he move on.

Onana has faced criticism for his erratic form, which has, at times, shaken the defence’s confidence in him to the point where ex-United players have branded him “useless” in goal.

Martínez says “yes” to United

According to multiple reports, United remains undecided about whether to try to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer or replace Altay Bayındır and secure a new second-choice goalkeeper who would challenge Onana for his starting spot.

However, this has not deterred shot-stoppers from informing their agents that they would like to join the club. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa’s Emi Martínez is one such player.

Romano wrote in his GiveMeSport column that Martínez has already said “yes” to joining United this summer, and is not put off by the fact that the club do not have Champions League football on offer for next season.

Initial contacts have taken place between United and the player’s agent, with the player ready to shelve all other offers as he waits to see if United sell Onana.

Martínez signing for United is still unlikely

Unfortunately for Martínez, the odds of him signing for United remain slim.

Romano further confirms that despite the player’s poor form, Amorim still sees Onana as a part of his project, as the pair have a good working relationship – a fact UtdDistrict exclusively revealed in May.

Saudi Pro League sides are still monitoring Onana’s situation and are also keen on Martínez, but United are not desperate to sell the Cameroon international.

However, should a good offer for Onana arrive, he is not untouchable, and if he were to leave Old Trafford, Martínez to United may become one to watch.
