A third Serie A club has seemingly entered the race to sign Rasmus Højlund this summer, following Manchester United’s finalisation of their summer transfer demands.
Manchester United are expected to let go of a whole host of talent this summer as they look to completely reshape their squad under Rúben Amorim.
Although many of United’s squad are talented players, the side are also home to multiple ageing players whom United are looking to replace this summer, with those such as Victor Lindelöf, Christian Eriksen, and Jonny Evans all set to leave once their contracts expire.
Others who were loaned out during January or last summer are expected to depart, with Marcus Rashford, Antony, Tyrell Malacia, and Jadon Sancho likely to total around £100 million in exit fees.
However, there remain rumours surrounding the futures of first-team players like Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund, who have failed to perform consistently under the new head coach.
United finalise Højlund transfer fee
United signed Højlund from Atalanta for a fee of around £72 million in 2023, with the striker going on to end the 2023/24 campaign as United’s top goalscorer that season with 16 to his name.
However, this second season at the club has been torrid, with the player scoring just eight goals in 44 appearances, including a 99-day streak with no goal to his name between December and March.
With this in mind, he is one player who is up for sale for the right fee, and according to previous reports, United have settled on a cost of £55.7 million this summer as their asking price.
Højlund’s amortisation value of £43.3 million means the club would have to sell him for above this amount to record any profit and sustainability regulations profit on his sale this summer.
Inter Milan create three-way race
As per reports from Fabrizio Romano a few days ago, United received calls from both Napoli and Juventus earlier this month surrounding the player.
With Napoli needing a replacement for Victor Osimhen and Juventus looking to move on Dušan Vlahović, Højlund is a player in demand.
However, according to Calciomercato.it, a third Serie A side, Inter Milan, have now joined the race, and are keeping a close eye on proceedings as they wait to see if United would be open to negotiating Højlund’s transfer.
The report also states that Juventus’ sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, has already made initial inquiries to the Old Trafford club regarding a move for Højlund this summer.
