Chelsea central defender Thiago Silva has reacted to Wednesday evening’s breaking news that Mason Mount has reportedly agreed terms ahead of a summer move to Manchester United.

With Erik ten Hag looking to reinforce his midfield options this summer window, Manchester United are reportedly close to securing the services of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount as their first signing of the 2023 summer window.

It is reported that Mount has agreed to his contract terms ahead of the proposed move, although United still need to finalise a transfer fee with Chelsea – with some reports suggesting this could be in the region of £60-85 million.

Further to this, Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian has added that United players are expecting Mount to join their squad this summer.

Thiago Silva, who has been an instrumental figure at Chelsea since signing from PSG in August 2020, has won multiple accolades alongside Mount during their time together at the club, including the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Upon reading the news, Silva took to Instagram to express his sadness:

Mason Mount, despite some mixed form across the last few seasons, has proved on many occasions that he is a wonderful midfielder.

He assisted Kai Havertz’s goal against Manchester City in the 2021 Champions League final, had a fantastic debut campaign in the Premier League under Frank Lampard, and has become a regular in the England squads over the last few seasons.

Fans will hope that just as he has done with Marcus Rashford, Erik ten Hag will be able to reignite the best in Mason Mount ahead of what is set to be a long and gruelling 2023/24 season across four competitions.
