Paul Scholes has named his two dream Manchester United signings for the upcoming January transfer window.
Manchester United have fallen to seventh in the Premier League standings following their defeat at Villa Park to Unai Emery’s high-flying Aston Villa side on Sunday afternoon.
Ruben Amorim’s Reds suffered a 2-1 loss to the Villains in a fixture that saw their captain have to exit the field at half-time with a suspected hamstring injury.
Bruno Fernandes picked up an injury late into the first half, but played on until the end of the first 45 minutes, before then being substituted for Lisandro Martinez.
Following the fixture, former United star Paul Scholes has picked out his two dream transfers that he would like the Red Devils to make in the January transfer window.
Scholes’ dream transfers
When talking on the latest episode of The Good, The Bad & The Football, via United In Focus, Scholes chose two specific signings that would help to bolster the United squad.
When asked about United-linked Antoine Semenyo, Scholes said, “He’ll be good in January.
“Something I think they need is a Declan Rice type. And a realistic one, I’d say Semenyo, although where does he play for Man United?
“Is he a wing-back? He’s more of an attacking player. I just don’t see where he fits into that [Bryan] Mbeumo, [Matheus] Cunha, [Benjamin] Šeško, [Amad] Diallo.
“A lot of people talked about him going to City. I just don’t see him as a City player, I just don’t.”
Is Semenyo the answer?
It has been widely reported that United are interested in the services of AFC Bournemouth’s talisman, although it begs the question, where would he play?
As stated prior, Scholes has already brought up this topic, as it is uncertain as to whether he would be a part of the forward line or, similarly to Amad Diallo, he would have to settle for a deeper role.

Given Semenyo’s eight goals and three assists so far this league campaign, it feels like a waste for him to be shackled to a deeper role if United were to ramp up their interest.
For the time being, the Reds should probably turn their focus to addressing other issues within their squad, such as their midfield department or their backline, before bringing in another winger.
