“They make a big difference” – Paul Scholes lauds three Man United players after win vs Aston Villa
Paul Scholes has lauded three Manchester United players after their stunning 3-2 win against Aston Villa on Tuesday evening.
The Reds produced a dramatic comeback victory against Unai Emery’s side after being 2-0 down at half-time.
Alejandro Garnacho scored twice before Rasmus Hojlund finally opened his Premier League account with a match-winning goal in front of the Stretford End.
Erik ten Hag’s side conceded two awful set-piece goals but largely dominated the game against Aston Villa, particularly in the second half.
Whilst the front three were rightly praised for their contributions to the win, former United midfielder Paul Scholes believed the midfield duo of Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen were crucial for Hojlund, as well as praising defender Raphael Varane.
“I think Christian Eriksen will help him being in the team, I’ve said that before,” explained Scholes when asked about Hojlund on Premier League Productions.
“I think Eriksen makes a big difference, and I don’t think he was especially brilliant tonight, but he’s the one player, and Fernandes as well, they can get the ball to Hojlund if he makes the right run.
“Now, Eriksen has been out for a long time, and he makes a big difference to this team, I think Varane coming back into the team is good as well.”
United moved into sixth place in the Premier League following the victory but Scholes thinks that they will be able to push forward in the coming weeks when injured players return.
“I think in three or four weeks, this team will be a different team,” he added. “I still don’t think it’s a team where you’ll say they can challenge for the title, we’re not there yet, but it’s a team to challenge for the top three or four and possibly win a cup competition.”
