“They like him…” Transfer insider provides interesting update on Man Utd’s Marc Guehi pursuit

Transfer insider Ben Jacobs has provided an interesting update regarding Manchester United’s interest in Marc Guehi, with the star ‘available’ in January.

Manchester United have drastically improved over the course of the last couple of months, with Ruben Amorim’s Reds now flying high in the Premier League.

The Red Devils are currently unbeaten in their last five league fixtures, with three wins and two draws, but could still look to further enhance their squad in January.

Despite spending big in the summer on the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, United left certain areas relatively untouched, with both their midfield and defence looking much the same as they did last season.

This could change when the January window comes around, however, as United have taken a liking to one of England’s most sought-after centre-backs, Marc Guehi.

Guehi ‘available’ in January

As reported by The United Stand on X, transfer insider Ben Jacobs has spoken about whether United are interested in the Crystal Palace defender.

“I think for the summer. So the feeling is that in January, Marc Guehi naturally can be available because Palace can cash in a fee, but there are a lot of variables.

“Not much to get excited about yet. Yes, they like him. Yes, they see there’s value there, but I don’t see them bidding for Marc Guehi in January, and then come the free agency market, if that’s what happens with Guehi.

“I think it’ll be a bit like Liam Delap, where they’d have to be able to pitch Marc Guehi regular starting spots and likely Champions League football.”

United’s defensive dilemma

Last season, United’s defence looked penetrable at the best of times, and they were often forced to turn to players further down the pecking order due to an injury crisis.

This is an issue that the Reds will hopefully eradicate now that they have a far healthier squad, although, despite recent positive results, they have still conceded more than they would like.

In their five-match unbeaten run, Amorim’s side have conceded seven goals, although they have counteracted this with impeccable goalscoring form.

United will be hopeful that in the near future, they can figure out a way to not solely rely on their attacking firepower to deliver results, and a signing such as Guehi could be what they need to fortify their backline.
