Manchester United attacker Antony has turned down an approach from Spain and Turkey, to instead stay at Old Trafford.

With just eight minutes of Premier League action so far this season, Antony has seen his place in the Manchester United squad become less secure over the last year.

Having joined United in the summer of 2022, the Brazillian forward now finds himself behind both Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho for minutes off the Red Devils’ right side.

As a result, the possibility of a summer exit for Antony has been aired, with interest arriving from Spanish side Real Betis. Despite this, Antony turned down the La Liga club’s approaches, with Fabrizio Romano explaining why the move failed to come to fruition:

“In the final days of the summer transfer window, Real Betis tried to explore a move to Spain for Antony, on loan from Manchester United” Romano explained via his YouTube channel.

“But then, both Manchester United because they sold [Jadon] Sancho to Chelsea, and also [on] the player’s side, they were not convinced it was the right possibility. So, nothing happened with Real Betis.

Since the reports of Antony joining the La Liga side were dismissed, rumours emerged that Jose Mourinho was looking to bring Antony to his current side, Turkish giants Fenerbache.

With eight days left of the Turkish window, these rumours have persisted from some sources, but Romano put to bed the idea that Antony would be leaving United.

“This deal is not happening,” He stated. “This is a very clear statement from those close to the player.

“With respect to Fenerbache, with respect to Jose Mourinho – the idea of Antony is to stay at Manchester United.

“He is part of the squad for this season [and] he wants to return to his best level this season. So, no intentions to leave Manchester United.”

Regardless of Antony turning down Mourinho and Fenerbahce’s approach, the Brazilian may yet get the opportunity to play at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium this season.

United are set to face the current SuperLig leaders on the 24th of October in Turkey, as part of the Europa League’s league stage.
