The Road to Wembley

3rd Round – Manchester United 3 – 1 Everton

4th Round – Manchester United 3 – 1 Reading

5th Round – Manchester United 3 – 1 West Ham United

Quarter-Final – Manchester United 3 – 1 Fulham

Semi-Final – Brighton 0 – 0 Manchester United (6 – 7 on penalties)

Total Goals Scored – 12

United have scored 12 goals in their FA Cup run this season. Whilst there were some excellent goals scored the pick of the bunch arguably came from Casemiro against Reading.

The Brazilian scored two excellent goals against Paul Ince’s side, with his first particularly impressive. A lovely pass in behind Reading’s defence from Antony allowed his Brazil teammate to run onto the ball and chip the goalkeeper to see United safely through to the 5th round of the cup.

Honourable mentions go to Alejandro Garnacho who scored an impressive goal against West Ham in the dying moments of the 5th round. Marcel Sabitzer also scored an audacious flick against Fulham in one of the most dramatic games of the season.

Top Goal Scorers – Casemiro, Fred, Bruno Fernandes (2)

Aside from Casmeiro’s double against Reading, his international teammate Fred, as well as Bruno Fernandes, have also registered two goals during this FA Cup run. Fred’s goals came against West Ham in the 95th minute, and the midfielder also scored against Reading to put United 3-0 up.

Like Casemiro, Fernandes scored both of his goals in one game, coming against Fulham. Fulham went 1-0 up, before having two players and their manager sent off shortly after. Fernandes converted a penalty to kickstart United’s comeback, before sealing the tie with a late goal to put United 3-1 up.

Most Key Passes – Bruno Fernandes (15)

Fernandes leads the way for most key passes in the FA Cup this season. The Portugal international has played 15 key passes, in five games, averaging an excellent three per game. It is largely unsurprising that Fernandes leads the way for this stat, considering he is at the heart of everything United do going forward.

Casemiro and Antony have played eight key passes apiece, also very impressive totals, and are tied for second on this list.

Most Assists – Fred (2)

Suprisingly, considering he has played 15 key passes, Fernandes is not leading the way with for most assists. United’s vice-captain registered just one assist, a very frustrating figure when you consider how many chances he has created.

Instead, Fred is the man who currently leads the way for United. He assisted goals for Casemiro and Fernandes, to help put himself top of the pile when it comes to most assists for United in the FA Cup this season.

Average Possession – 58%

On the whole, United have dominated the ball in the FA Cup this season, something that reflects when looking at their average possession, which sits at 58%.

Keeping the ball this much in the final against Manchester City will be tougher, but United will be hoping to see more of the ball and ultimately come out on top against their cross-city rivals.

Total Goals Conceded – 4

Up until the semi-final, United had won every single game 3-1. Ten Hag’s side went behind twice, against West Ham and Fulham, whilst Everton were the only team to score a first-half goal in the FA Cup this season against United.

In the semi-final against Brighton, United managed to keep Roberto De Zerbi’s impressive Brighton side at bay, before eventually knocking them out on penalties.

Clean Sheets – 1

United’s only clean sheet in this competition came against Brighton at Wembley. Whilst it was frustrating to only keep one clean sheet in the FA Cup so far, United have still put in some excellent defensive performances, and have looked solid as a unit.

The Red Devils will no doubt be desperate to keep their second clean sheet of the competition on Saturday, something which could be key to victory over Pep Guardiola’s side.
