Manchester United chiefs are in complete disagreement over what Ruben Amorim believes was the ‘beginning for the end’ at him at Old Trafford.
Manchester United dismissed Rúben Amorim last Monday following a concerning meeting between the Portuguese coach and Jason Wilcox earlier that week.
Darren Fletcher has since stepped in on an interim basis, overseeing the FA Cup defeat to Brighton and a Premier League draw with Burnley.
With the Manchester derby fast approaching, United are now set to appoint Michael Carrick as caretaker head coach for the remainder of the season.
The former midfielder will be charged with steadying the ship at Old Trafford and leading a resurgence as the club aims to push back into contention for a top-five finish in the league.
United chiefs completely disagree with Amorim over claim
Speaking to the United Stand on Monday afternoon, journalist Ben Jacobs detailed how Amorim was feeling towards the end of his tenure at Old Trafford.
The reporter claimed that the head coach started to assume that the hesitance from the board to make signings in the January window was the beginning of the end for him.
Jacobs added that those at the club continue to argue that is ‘nonsense’ and that they had already spent a lot of money for Amorim.
United signed four first-team players in the 2025 summer transfer window, with three of those additions costing more than £60 million each.
Attention turning to United chiefs
United’s failure to sign a midfielder last summer was always going to be an issue, and that became even more prominent for Amorim once it became clear that he didn’t want to play Kobbie Mainoo.
He wanted another player to come in to bolster the midfield but he wasn’t even using the existing options properly. If anything, he was tanking the valuation of a player who he likely wanted to sell.
Then again, those in charge are certainly not faultless and now the Portuguese boss has departed, there will be a lot more attention on the likes of Wilcox and Omar Berrada.
During their short time at the club so far, there have been several high-profile mistakes that have cost United time and money. Their next managerial decision must work, otherwise fans will lose patience completely with the leadership team.
