Ruben Amorim has agreed with a harsh assessment from Roy Keane after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town.

Manchester United were held to a point by Ipswich Town in Ruben Amorim’s first Premier League match as head coach despite an early lead.

Amad Diallo showcased his brilliance with a superb solo run to set up Marcus Rashford for the opening goal. However, that proved to be United’s standout moment at Portman Road.

Shortly before halftime, Ipswich levelled the score through a deflected long-range strike that glanced off Noussair Mazraoui.

In the second half, United struggled to create clear-cut chances, with Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho unable to make a significant impact in the attacking third.

Like in many games under Erik ten Hag, it felt like some of the players began to crumble after conceding and poor decisions started to crop up in the game more often.

United legend Roy Keane brought this up to Amorim during his Sky Sports interview and asked if the lack of ‘football intelligence’ was a problem in his team.

“That is a concern,” responded Amorim. “Because you can understand, you don’t need to coach them because at this level you have to keep the ball.

“Know the momentum, when to put the ball in front, and sometimes you feel that you can keep the ball and you put the ball in front.

“Then we are in the end of the game and you are rounding the box with two strikers. Josh [Zirkzee] has to understand that he has to go to the box to have the crosses.

“So we are doing some things not in the right moments, that is something we have to address.

“Everyone talks about the 3-4-3, that is not the concern. A system is a system but the understanding of the game we have to improve a lot in this area.”
