Ruben Amorim makes Manchester United request after Sky Sports’ embarrassing moment in Ipswich draw
Ruben Amorim has made a Manchester United request after an embarrassing moment from Sky Sports in his post-match press conference.
Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in Ruben Amorim’s managerial debut, despite taking an early lead.
Amad Diallo produced a brilliant solo run to set up Marcus Rashford for the opener, but that proved to be the highlight of United’s performance at Portman Road.
Just before half-time, the Reds conceded an equalizer as a long-range strike deflected off Noussair Mazraoui and found the back of the net.
The second half saw limited attacking opportunities, with key players like Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho struggling to influence the game in the final third.
During his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Amorim was interrupted by musician Ed Sheeran gatecrashing to laugh and speak with Jamie Redknapp.
The Ipswich Town minor stakeholder took a few moments to leave the screens and allow the United head coach, who looked annoyed by the situation, to continue speaking.
It was quite an embarrassing moment for the broadcaster, who re-posted the clip onto their social media channels afterwards. Amorim seemed far from impressed.
According to Carl Anka, Amorim has said that he will tell the head of communications at United to limit requests for media duty to focus on training his squad.
“I want to say, this is the last time… this week I spoke more than four years in Sporting,” he said.
“And then when you speak too much and you don’t win, it’s really hard for everybody.
“So it was one week, and only one week. I spoke with Andrew [United’s head of comms]. I just want to work with my players, nothing more, but I understand that it’s a different game here.”
Many United fans will be gleaming by the idea that Amorim wants to focus on the training pitch rather than doing media duties.
He expressed his respect for journalists during his time in Portugal and they got some incredible moments in return, but clearly has quickly recognised that it is going to be completely in the Premier League.
