Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha claims that Erik ten Hag has made the ‘same mistake’ as Ole Gunnar Solskjær during his Old Trafford tenure so far.

Erik ten Hag‘s first two seasons at Manchester United have offered mixed success. The club won trophies but suffered embarrassing results at the helm of its rivals, such as heavy losses to Liverpool and Crystal Palace.

The club have since offered Ten Hag an extension on his contract, which will now run until 2026, following Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s 27.7% acquisition of the club and several new high-profile signings in the upper management department.

Ten Hag succeeded Ole Gunnar Solskjær as the permanent manager at Old Trafford, although both Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick held interim managerial positions at United when the Norweigan was relieved of his duties.

Speaking in a recent interview with TVSporten, former United striker and club icon Louis Saha has explained he feels that Ten Hag has made the same mistake as Solskjær with respect to finding balance in the squad.

“Erik ten Hag has made the same mistakes as Ole Gunnar Solskjær when it comes to finding a balance in the squad, but in a different way.

“He has been too strict with the players, and it has bitten him because he tries to control them too much. If that happens, the players will fight back.

“But it is not easy at Manchester United. Even Sir Alex Ferguson struggled with elements of having control over the squad. It is not easy.”

Furthermore, Saha clarified that he feels Ten Hag has regained the respect of people in and around United since the FA Cup win in May, but he feels that he should stay humble with his claims regarding being the best man available for the job.

“I think Erik ten Hag won back the respect after his first season as boss. The FA Cup win was so important to him. That said, there are some aspects of his communication that I don’t like.

“After he signed his new contract, he talked about being the best manager out there, and that was the wrong thing to say. I don’t know why he would say something like that, it’s his style and I respect that we’re all different. But he should stop doing that.”
