Teden Mengi labels Man United loss “sickener” against “lucky” Erik ten Hag
Luton Town defender Teden Mengi has opened up about his thoughts concerning their 2-1 loss against Manchester United on the weekend.
Teden Mengi broke through into professional football as part of Manchester United‘s academy. However, the player failed to make a significant impact under Erik ten Hag and left Old Trafford for Luton Town last summer.
Mengi has become a mainstay as part of that Luton squad and started as United made the trip south, with Rasmus Højlund grabbing both for the club in a 2-1 win.

However, Luton must be given plaudits for their performance, with many feeling that they were unlucky not to get at least a point from the fixture.
Speaking to club media after the fixture, Mengi explains that he feels Erik ten Hag and his squad were “lucky” with their goals and to grab all three points.
“It’s a tough one to take, it’s a sickener as I feel like we dominated both halves,” the central defender said.

“We were brave on the ball, obviously an early mistake within a minute, we concede a goal, and then not long after we concede another. A lucky deflection, but I feel like without the mistakes and the lucky deflection, we go on and win that game.
“They can have their arguments. They created a lot of chances as well, but so did we. If we had a little bit more quality and detail in the final third, we can put away our chances as we did create a hell of a lot of chances, but it’s a sickener.”
Luton currently sit 18th in the Premier League table, only in the relegation zone via goal difference, with Everton sat just one place above in 17th – both sides have 20 points.
