“Impressive” Manchester United star named by Premier League winner for Luton performance
Kobbie Mainoo has been praised by both Gary Lineker and Micah Richards following his composed performance against Luton Town.
Amounting eleven Premier League starts this season, Mainoo, 18, has battled off a pre-season injury to now cement himself as one of the first names on Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United teamsheets.
Mainoo, despite his young age, has already picked up more Premier League minutes than fellow United midfielders Christian Eriksen, Sofyan Amrabat, and long-term injury-ridden playmaker Mason Mount.

Additionally, Mainoo has started just one league game fewer than Casemiro, his midfield partner against Luton.
With Casemiro subbed off at halftime after coming close to being given a red card, Mainoo was left to see out the entirety of the game, with his performance receiving high praise from Lineker and Richards
“I really like him,” Lineker first told his co-hosts on The Rest Is Football podcast. “This young man, every time I see him, I think he’s so impressive, so mature in his performances.”

Richards, who won the Premier League at United’s rivals Manchester City, was happy to agree with his co-host, highlighting one specific trait that allowed Mainoo to stand out.
“It’s just like his composure,” Richards stated. “You know, today, when the game was getting a bit frantic, he was the only one really able to get his foot on the ball and remain calm in possession.”
Rising through the ranks of United’s academy system, Mainoo has already made fifteen appearances for Ten Hag’s side across all competitions this season.
