Manchester United and Nottingham Forest will face off in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday evening.

The fixture will take place at the City Ground, with Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United looking to take the first step in get that ticket to Wembley for the final.

The two sides have met once already this season in the Premier League, with the fixture ending in a 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Fred.

The fixture also saw Casemiro put in a world class performance in midfield, with the Brazilian expected to return to action for Manchester United after serving a one-match ban against Arsenal.

There are three key absentees for Manchester United as Ten Hag sets up for his first semi-final.

During his recent press conference, the Dutch manager confirmed that Anthony Martial, Diogo Dalot, and Jadon Sancho remain unavailable for selection on Wednesday evening.

Martial and Dalot are both still recovering from injuries, while Jadon Sancho is continuing his rehabilitation and integration into the first team squad after a period of absence for physical and mental rehab.

Donny van de Beek also remains injured after undergoing knee surgery, with the Dutch midfielder expected to be out for the rest of the season.

Axel Tuanzebe recently returned to training after injury, however is unlikely to be involved in the fixture.

Nottingham Forest team news

Steve Cooper has quite the selection headache on his hands, with his side potentially facing up to eight absentees for the fixture.

New signing Chris Wood is cup-tied and therefore cannot play in the fixture, however new signing Danilo is available.

Dean Henderson is currently facing a few weeks side lined with injury, however the goalkeeper would not have been able to play in the fixture regardless due to the fact that Manchester United are his parent club.

Former United player Jesse Lingard could make his return to action on Wednesday evening after he was involved in Forest’s last matchday squad, returning from a hamstring sustained at Old Trafford in December.

Ryan Yates was substituted due to illness in their 1-1 draw against Bournemouth and is being assessed, while Taiwo Awoniyi, Omar Richards, Moussa Niakhate, Giulian Biancone and Cheikhou Kouyate are all unavailable due to injury.
