One Manchester United Academy star is set to miss out on the club’s pre-season tour in the USA, with a loan deal looking likely.
After signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined fee of £127.5 million, Manchester United will now have to sell in order to continue Ruben Amorim’s squad transformation, with the Portuguese manager still looking for a centre forward and goalkeeper.
As a result, a number of forwards are expected to leave Old Trafford, including the likes of Marcus Rashford, who has already completed a move to Barcelona, Jadon Sancho, who is on the verge of signing for Juventus, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony.
Antony looks most likely to return to where he found great success in the second half of the season, Real Betis, while Garnacho wants to stay in the Premier League, just not at Old Trafford.
Despite encountering some problems when selling these players, United have regularly been able to sell young players in recent years for better or for worse, as many of them go on to enjoy huge success.
The latest talent linked with a move
After enjoying a successful second half of the season out on loan at Cheltenham, there is seemingly no room for Ethan Williams in Amorim’s squad, as he has been left out of the travelling squad that will head to America for their pre-season tour.
As reported by MailSport’s Nathan Salt, Williams will not participate in the US tour. Instead, he will focus on securing a loan for next season, with several League 1 teams expressing interest in the 19-year-old winger.
He primarily plays on the left wing, enjoying cutting into the middle, a position that his new teammate, Cunha, has been brought in to occupy.
“Talented” Williams scored two and assisted two in 17 League 2 games, and as he will be unlikely to receive much playing time next season, will head out on loan to further develop his game.
Plenty of suitors for Williams
After having a number of promising performances in League 2, it’s expected that he will make the step up to League 1, with a number of clubs interested in securing the 19-year-old’s services next season.
While it’s most likely that he will stay in England, he is also attracting attention from Belgian giants Club Brugge and Anderlecht, with previous reports stating that the Belgian outfits would prefer a permanent deal.

The competition for one of the twin number 10 roles in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 is fierce. With first-team chances limited, he could be tempted by the move to the Belgian giants who have an excellent reputation for developing young players.
As he is part of the Academy, any proceeds from a sale would be accounted as pure profit, as United look to make as much money as possible to further aid their crucial summer spending.
