Erik ten Hag could reward one of Manchester United’s most talented academy players with an inclusion in the first-team squad against Liverpool on Sunday.

United turned their attention back to their biggest rivals in the Premier League after two poor results against Chelsea and Brentford.

Before that came the incredible FA Cup quarter-final victory against Liverpool which saw Amad Diallo scored a 121st-minute winner for Ten Hag’s side.

This time around, the Old Trafford side is down to the bare bones in its defensive personnel, with Harry Maguire and Willy Kambwala being the only fit centre-backs for the game.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot are also the only fit first-team full-backs, which could influence Ten Hag to make a bold decision to promote 17-year-old Harry Amass to the squad for the game.

Amass has been excelling for the Under-18s since joining the club last summer from Watford. He has been training with Ten Hag’s first team in recent months and was rewarded with his first professional contract on his 17th birthday last month.

According to AcademyScoop, Amass has a “strong chance” of being called up to Ten Hag’s squad for the very first time on Sunday afternoon when United face Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Amass was not involved in United’s staggering 9-1 win against Liverpool at under-18s level on Saturday afternoon. According to the aforementioned report, he instead took part in first-team training.

With 19 appearances across all competitions so far this term, Amass has quickly become a favourite of those who follow the club’s academy closely.

He has been a key part of Adam Lawrence’s successful U18s side, who sit 13 points top of the league table. The only game that was lost across the season came when Amass was called up to the U21s squad.
