Sporting director reveals “dialogue” with Manchester United star after Fabrizio Romano confirmed departure
Manchester United are expected to make many changes to Ruben Amorim’s squad when the summer transfer window opens.
Ruben Amorim has had a difficult start to life at Manchester United, winning only 10 of his opening 21 games in charge.
It is clear that changes are needed in the summer but the Reds will not have an extraordinary budget heading into the transfer window.
Sales and exits from the club are going to be crucial to aid signings and many players are expected to depart at the end of the season.
Several players have expiring contracts and are unlikely to be offered renewals, including midfielder Christian Eriksen.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed Eriksen departure
Eriksen was signed by the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 and started very well under Erik ten Hag, building a relationship with Casemiro in the centre of midfield.
However, since that debut campaign, the Danish star has only been a squad player at Old Trafford and his role has become even more limited under Amorim.
Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed that the 33-year-old’s contract, which expires in June 2025, will not be extended, and that he is set to explore his options soon.
“Christian Eriksen will soon start exploring options for his next chapter, as he’s set to leave Man United at the end of the season. His contract won’t be extended, and Eriksen will be a free agent in the summer,” the Italian journalist wrote on X this week.
There will likely be several clubs interested in the player’s services on a free contract, including those from his home country.
Sporting director reveals “dialogue” with Eriksen
Eriksen spent several years at the academy of Danish club Odense Boldklub, who are currently leading the 1st Division of Danish football and could be promoted to the Superligaen next term.
Odense Boldklub’s sporting director Troels Bech has been asked about the prospects of Eriksen returning to the club in the summer.
Despite admitting that there is “dialogue” with the United player, Bech suggests that a move could be too ambitious for the second division outfit.
“If you hope to stand and be able to break something about Christian Eriksen and OB right now, it is both out of my hands and maybe also a little bit ambitious,” he told TV2 Sport.
“He’s of course a dear friend of the club, and we have just organised the Christian Eriksen Cup with his great approval, so he is a player who means more than just a shirt number and 90 minutes for OB.

“There’s dialogue. Most recently, he has also helped us with video and other things for the Christian Eriksen Cup. But it’s not my privilege to stand and talk about contract talks. That’s not the dialogue we have with Christian Eriksen right now.”
It is likely that Eriksen’s future becomes more clear in the coming months, but a return to Denmark would not be surprising at all for the United player.
