Manchester United’s under-21s assistant coach Dave Hughes has agreed with Ruben Amorim’s assessment of one wonderkid.

Ruben Amorim has been keeping a close eye on those within the Academy setup since he joined Manchester United in November.

The 39-year-old boss took time ahead of the Manchester Derby this weekend to watch the club’s Under-21s face Southampton at Carrington.

He was spotted on the sidelines alongside technical director Jason Wilcox, first-team coach Darren Fletcher, and head of academy Nick Cox for the Saturday afternoon clash.

United’s youth team delivered an impressive performance, securing a dominant 5-1 victory over the Saints to climb to fifth place in the Premier League 2 standings.

Tyler Fletcher opened the scoring for the young Reds, with Dan Gore adding a second goal before halftime.

A brace from midfield prospect Jack Moorhouse and a goal from Ethan Wheatley sealed the win for Travis Binnion’s side, despite Baylee Dipepa’s consolation goal for the visitors.

Reports after the game suggested that Amorim was impressed by the performance of Moorhouse, who scored a stunning goal late on in the clash.

That opinion was echoed by U21s assistant coach Dave Hughes when he spoke to club media after the game.

The former Aston Villa player described the midfielder’s performance as ‘really exciting’ as makes important steps forward following injury troubles in recent years.

“Some really good performances… Tyler Fletcher got himself a goal. We had three midfield players scoring,” began Hughes.

“Special mention really for Jack Moorhouse, who has had a period of time where he’s been injured but we’re managing to increase his minutes week-by-week.

“Some of his play was really, really exciting, so we’re really pleased for him.”

The 19-year-old midfielder will be hoping to continue impressing in the youth setup and try to break into the first-team training squad under Amorim.
