“Something different…” Rúben Amorim confirms much-needed Manchester United transfer change after criticism

Rúben Amorim has confirmed that Manchester United are looking to change their transfer policy amid criticisms of their previous player purchases.

As Manchester United look towards the summer transfer window, Rúben Amorim will need to address several critical gaps in his squad.

Reports indicate that the club may look to offload up to 10 senior players, including Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Casemiro, in order to raise funds for new signings.

With this budget, the club is said to be targeting a new striker, a deep-lying midfielder, an attacking midfielder, a left wing-back, and a goalkeeper, with a centre-back also on their radar.

However, given their financial struggles, Manchester United is expected to focus on finding value-for-money signings rather than splashing out on high-profile talent with expensive price tags.

Amorim confirms transfer policy change

Over the last ten or twelve years, United have been known to splash big cash on either expensive young talents or big name signings. Fees such as £85 million on Antony, £89 million on Paul Pogba, and £73 million on Jadon Sancho have all come under scrutiny.

However, with United strapped for cash but needing a whole host of new players for Amorim, the head coach has confirmed that the club are doing to do “something different” in the market compared to their previous track record.

“We have to do something different,” Amorim said when asked if the club will shift their transfer policy. But then it depends on the cases – of the position, of the experience of the players, of the opportunity of the market.

“So I don’t want to say that we are going to do just this. We are trying to look at things in a different way because we have to change something, but anything can happen. But our focus is to build something not just for the present, but the long run. So, we will see.”

The most stable future United have had in years

Despite United’s current state of affairs leaving much to be desired, there is also hope that the club have a well-thought-out plan for the future.

As Amorim mentioned, all transfers will now be considered with respect to building toward the long run rather than immediately improving the team, and signings such as Chido Obi, Ayden Heaven, Leny Yoro, Patrick Dorgu, and others within the last year proves this.

With Amorim now in control of the squad, he himself is a very young manager at 40 years of age – around 15 years younger than Erik ten Hag – which shows that as well as the players, he has a lot of room to grow.

United may be sitting at close to rock bottom since the turn of the century, but it feels as if there is light at the end of the tunnel.
