“Some resentment…” – Why Royal Antwerp chiefs were ‘unhappy’ with Senne Lammens before Manchester United move

Royal Antwerp are unhappy with their former player, Senne Lammens, who reportedly travelled for his Manchester United move without the permission of his club.

Manchester United’s summer spending has wrapped up for another year, seeing a total of four incomings whilst many players departed.

Ruben Amorim’s side addressed their attacking concerns after a dismal season in front of goal, through the £200million acquisitions of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko.

After this, the Reds shifted their focus to outgoings, as well as goalkeeping and midfield reinforcements, although the latter wasn’t achieved in this window.

As for their goalkeeping reinforcement, United ended their window with the addition of 23-year-old Belgian Senne Lammens, who joined for £18million.

Antwerp unhappy with Lammens exit

As is being reported by Het Laatste Nieuws, via Sport Witness, Lammens’ former club, Royal Antwerp, are unhappy with their former shot-stopper due to him travelling for his move without the club’s approval.

The report states that when Lammens boarded the private jet to the United Kingdom, Antwerp hadn’t officially agreed terms with the Red Devils.

It says that Lammens was ‘theoretically not allowed to travel, but he did so anyway,’ and there was ‘some resentment’ within the club towards their departing star.

United and the Jupiler Pro League side eventually found an agreement for £18million plus £2.6million bonuses, but this occurred whilst Lammens was already mid-air.

When will United fans see Lammens?

Now that the Belgian goalkeeper has officially signed for the Red Devils, many United fans will be asking the same question: When can we see Lammens in action?

Unfortunately for fans of the Reds, despite their lack of consistency between the sticks so far this season, they may have to wait for over a month before seeing their new shot-stopper.

With it now being an international break, the first opportunity for Lammens is the Manchester derby at the Etihad, which he is unlikely to be thrown into, whilst his second opportunity is a tough fixture against Chelsea.

This would mean that his first appearance may come at home to Sunderland in a month, so despite Lammens’ eagerness to sign, it could be a while until his debut.
