“So hard on me…” – Ruben Amorim reveals toughest Manchester United moment which was “embarrassing”
Ruben Amorim has already had a lot of ups and downs during his three months as Manchester United head coach.
Manchester United appointed Ruben Amorim in November and he has since taken charge of 14 fixtures in the busy winter schedule.
There have been some real high moments which have shown promise, such as victories against Arsenal and Manchester City.
However, there have also been some tough games, with United already having lost six games under the Portuguese coach’s management.
Amorim reveals toughest United moment so far
United had lost three games, all by one goal, before they hosted Bournemouth at Old Trafford in late December and it could have been argued that the Reds were unfortunate in those defeats.
However, it was the 3-0 loss against The Cherries at United’s home-ground, where they were clearly second best, which hurt Amorim the most so far.
The 39-year-old has explained that he felt “so embarrassed” after that game as he was still receiving support from the fans despite the poor result.
But that moment also reaffirmed his stance about how much he wants to stay and turn things around at United.
“I think you can put both (highlight and lowlight) together – the end of Bournemouth. That loss was so hard on me,” he told TNT Sports.
“It was really, really hard. A second defeat in a row, 3-0 again. But then at the end you have your friends clapping. It’s so embarrassing and good at the same time.
“You can put them together and feel that this is the club where I want to stay and to win. And then the other feeling is that it’s like we are disappointing a lot of people. So I can put this moment and explain both sides of the coin.”
Amorim has built good relationship with United fans
One of Amorim’s toughest jobs when taking the United role was to convince the fanbase, who have been extremely used to disappointments.
It almost felt like the first time where a lot of supporters were refusing to get excited about an appointment simply because of how things have gone beforehand.
Erik ten Hag’s time at the club was extended partly because of the relationship he built with those fans, and Amorim needed to grow that same relationship in a more difficult circumstance.
The way in which he’s been able to do that–even with poor results–has been brilliant and it’s worked because he has been honest.
Amorim knows that the fans are exhausted with these false dawns and has addressed that. He also told them that things are not going to go swimmingly after beating Everton 4-0.

He looks like a man who knows what is happening and how he can fix it in the long-term, which is something many fans appreciate.
Improvements on the pitch are needed, that is obvious. But Amorim has made a good step forward though his work with the United supporters since taking over.
