Six Manchester United stars most likely to leave in January as part of fresh Rúben Amorim overhaul
Six Manchester United stars could feasibly leave Old Trafford in January as Rúben Amorim starts his overhaul of the club’s current squad.
Rúben Amorim has been using the first six weeks of his time as Manchester United’s new head coach to assess what his squad needs going forward.
After taking over from Erik ten Hag, Amorim’s side have not enjoyed a fruitful spell of form, having won just four of their 11 games since, losing six and drawing one.
However, the overall conclusion has been that rather than the losses being the fault of Amorim, it’s more down to the players’ lack of confidence, abilities, and time on the training pitch in his new system.
With the January window fast approaching, it has been revealed that to secure fresh recruits, United would have to sell multiple players first.
Below are six players who may depart United in the coming weeks, as the Daily Mail outlines.
#1 – Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford’s transfer situation is the most interesting and most valuable at the club. United are said to be open to offers starting at around £40 million, and any money they make from his sale is counted as pure profit because he’s an Academy graduate.
Rashford has said he wants a new challenge away from United, but so far, most reports have detailed that he may find it difficult to find a new suitor in a top European league because of his wage demands.
#2 – Casemiro
Casemiro is destined to leave United in 2025, and his decline in importance since Amorim’s arrival speaks to his lack of value.
According to Brazilian reports, Casemiro has already agreed to leave the club, with a transfer to Saudi Arabia in January a strong possibility amid his good relationship with Al-Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
#3 – Antony
There are a fair few mixed reports surrounding 24-year-old winger Antony, but all arrows point in the vague direction of United being happy to offload the player if the right offer comes in.
Real Betis are interested in a potential loan deal for Antony next month while taking a percentage of his £200,000-a-week wages. However, his agent claimed last Thursday that United have not told the player that they would be open to letting him leave.
#4 – Joshua Zirkzee
Joshua Zirkzee arrived at United in the 2024 summer transfer window for a fee of around £36 million from Bologna but has failed to settle in, scoring just four goals and providing two assists in his opening 27 fixtures for the club.
Multiple reports from Italy have said that Juventus will look to push for a move for Zirkzee in January as manager Thiago Motta, who worked with Zirkzee at Bologna, is keen on reuniting with the 23-year-old.
However, it has also been said that United continue to see promise in Zirkzee despite his poor start, so any exit would likely have to be if the player pushes for it.
#5 – Victor Lindelöf
Victor Lindelöf is one of two players who is already set to depart United in 2025, but his exit may come earlier than once his contract expires in June 2025.
Leicester City have been linked with a move for the Swedish international of late, and United may push to see if they can secure a nominal fee for the player in January rather than let him leave for free in June.
#6 – Christian Eriksen
The same logic applies to Christian Eriksen. Fabrizio Romano confirmed last week that the player will leave United once his contract expires but that there is still room to leave United earlier should a suitable offer come in.
The 32-year-old is in the twilight years of his career and may choose not to spend the remaining six months on the bench at United, so he could push for a move if one presents itself.
