Sir Jim Ratcliffe opens up Erik ten Hag following Manchester Untied’s Porto draw
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has addressed the positon of Erik ten Hag as Manchester United manager following the club’s 3-3 draw against FC Porto.
Erik ten Hag is facing growing scrutiny as Manchester United manager after a third Premier League defeat in just six matches and poor displays in Europe this season.
With the team now 13th in the league table and a lacklustre home draw against FC Twente in the Europa League, fan frustration has reached new heights, with many calling for the Dutchman’s exit.

A 3-0 loss to Tottenham and a dramatic 3-3 draw with Porto have further compounded the pressure. Despite featuring eight of his own signings, Ten Hag’s teams have looked disjointed and chaotic.
Against Porto, United threw away a 2-0 lead, with Harry Maguire rescuing a point in stoppage time after Bruno Fernandes was sent off late in the match.
When asked if he still had faith in Ten Hag, United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe told BBC Sport: “I don’t want to answer that question.”
United have won just three of their opening ten fixtures this season, sitting 13th in the Premier League table and well out of control of their European hopes this season.
“I like Erik. I think he’s a very good coach but at the end of the day it’s not my call,” Ratcliffe continued.
“It’s the management team that’s running Manchester United that have to decide how we best run the team in many different respects.
“But that team that’s running Manchester United has only been together since June or July. They weren’t there in January, February, March or April – [CEO] Omar [Berrada], [sporting director] Dan Ashworth – they only arrived in July.
“They’ve only been there… you can count it in weeks almost – they’ve not been there a long time, so they need to take stock and make some sensible decisions.
“Our objective is very clear – we want to take Manchester United back to where it should be, and it’s not there yet, obviously – that’s very clear.”
