Shock Premier League club ‘taking a look’ at signing Rasmus Højlund from Manchester United as priority transfer made clear

Manchester United are trying to move on some of their unwanted players in the coming weeks before the summer transfer deadline.

After securing the signings of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško this summer, Manchester United are looking to make sales.

Further additions could be made in midfield and in goal before the deadline, with Carlos Baleba the preferred target in the engine room.

But the Reds must sell in order to secure such signings after already spending around £200 million without any sales so far.

Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho are among those the club are trying to sell and there are clubs interested in both players.

Shock Premier League club ‘taking a look’ at signing Højlund

Højlund, 22, has been eager to stay at Old Trafford for the upcoming season even though it has been well established that a new striker will be joining.

Now that Šeško is in the door, United are clearly trying to nudge the Dane towards the exit door. He was an unused substitute against Fiorentina last weekend and Mason Mount was used as a no.9.

AC Milan are looking at signing Højlund on loan and that seems like the most likely destination for him at the moment, but there are others interested in the striker.

The Athletic have reported that, alongside Milan, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Premier League side Newcastle are among the clubs taking a look at Højlund.

Newcastle are desperate for attacking reinforcements as it becomes clear that they will have to sell Alexander Isak this summer. They were rejected by Mbeumo, Cunha and Šeško earlier this summer.

Garnacho sale the priority

Meanwhile, Garnacho’s move to Chelsea is seemingly coming closer to completion and the aforementioned report explained that this particular sale is United’s ‘priority’ now.

The Blues are not yet prepared to match United’s £50 million valuation for the winger, instead valuing him at around £30-35 million.

Reports have claimed that Garnacho has told United that he does not want to go anywhere else, and that if a Chelsea move does not occur, he would sit and not play at Old Trafford for 12 months.

That is exactly why United should push him out of the door, even if for unfavourable terms, as that kind of attitude should be nowhere near Carrington in the new season.
