Senne Lammens has received some huge praise from a former Liverpool star after he helped guide Manchester United to victory at Anfield.
Manchester United secured the signing of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens on deadline day in the summer as they looked to solve their goalkeeping issues.
André Onana departed the club on loan while Altay Bayındır was given his chance to impress in the first five Premier League games while Lammens settled into life in Manchester.
With the Turkish international continuing to make mistakes, Lammens was given his debut against Sunderland before the international break. A win and clean sheet led to the new goalkeeper earning a lot of praise.
Lammens has continued his fine form at Anfield – a difficult second game as a United goalkeeper. He made some important stops in the 2-1 win against Liverpool and his long distribution was vital to the victory.
Lammens receives huge praise from ex-Liverpool star
Even though there is a fierce rivalry between the two clubs, a former Liverpool goalkeeper could not help but praise Lammens’ impact for United.
Simon Mignolet, who spent six years at Liverpool, has offered enormous praise for his fellow Belgian shot-stopper when speaking to Voetbal Primeur.
“He has the build and the qualities to succeed in England,” said Mignolet when asked about Lammens. “He’s big, explosive, and strong on high balls and he can save balls that other goalkeepers can’t.
“With his shot-stopping, he can score points for United. He’s steady in his head and handles pressure well. He has the ability to bounce back after a mistake and stay calm.”
Lammens will be hoping to continue his strong start at United next weekend when Brighton visit the Theatre of Dreams.
Expectations for Lammens are lower
Usually when Manchester United sign new players, there is huge expectations on them to provide many different things. But that hasn’t been the case with Lammens, and it might be helping him.
United supporters aren’t actually expecting anything out of the ordinary from the new goalkeeper. The majority of fans are just looking for someone to do the basics and he is able to do that.
It is actually an interesting change and perhaps something that is helping Lammens as he continues to get used to his new club.
He will undoubtably make a mistake soon which will cost United a goal but as Mignolet and others have suggested, Lammens won’t crumble after one mistake and that’s exactly what United need.
