Senne Lammens could receive early Manchester United debut next week as Rúben Amorim prepares for Manchester City clash

Senne Lammens could be set to make his Manchester United debut next week, as Rúben Amorim considers his involvement for the Manchester derby.

Senne Lammens joined Manchester United on Deadline Day from Royal Antwerp, in a deal that has excited the Red Devils fans due to the goalkeeper worries at the club in recent years.

Since David de Gea left United, Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir have struggled to live up to their high expectations, and their problems have continued into the 2025/26 season.

With Onana missing pre-season through injury, Bayindir started the first Premier League match against Arsenal, and played well apart from his mistake that led to Riccardo Califiori’s goal in the first half.

Many thought the Cameroonian would be back in goal for the Fulham game, but he remained on the bench and only started in the Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town, before being dropped again for the Burnley game.

While Lammens isn’t expected to immediately become the starting shotstopper, he could make his United debut sooner rather than later.

Lammens set to feature next week

Lammens has stayed at Carrington during the international break and will have the opportunity to train with Rúben Amorim’s squad for two weeks before the Manchester derby.

However, he could make his debut before the clash against Manchester City as the under-21s have scheduled a friendly against Aston Villa, reports MEN.

The Belgian youngster wasn’t involved for Royal Antwerp in two games before his United move, so having him play 90 minutes for the under-21s could help him build match fitness before being involved with the first team.

Diego Leon – another summer signing – played 45 minutes for the under-21s in a friendly against PFA XI on Wednesday afternoon, as Shea Lacey scored a brilliant goal for United.

Will Murdock played the full game in between the sticks, while Binnion rotated the majority of the outfield players, meaning Lammens could be used to give Murdock a rest, as well as to build his own fitness.

Bayindir set to start against Manchester City

While Lammens could start against Manchester City next weekend, Amorim may favour Bayindir for the derby because he has been impressive with his distribution in the opening fixtures.

Bayindir’s passing could help United break down City, who have shown weakness this season, as they currently sit below the Red Devils in the Premier League.

Lammens could be the better choice for the derby, but not starting would protect the youngster, as he may need time to settle into life in Manchester, like Benjamin Šeško.

Starting him in an under-21s friendly could give him his first taste of life as a United player, if Amorim wants to feature him against City.
