Senne Lammens’ agent reveals Man Utd made transfer U-turn after ‘0/10’ display, “at the very end…”

Senne Lammens’ agent has highlighted a late U-turn that Manchester United made regarding Andre Onana, which changed everything for the Belgian.

During the summer transfer window, Manchester United splashed out on a new attack, spending around £200million on three new forwards, before then bringing in a new shot-stopper at the death.

After facing a conundrum between the sticks for the past few seasons, United opted to sign Senne Lammens on deadline day, who has since become their regular no.1.

It was expected that Lammens would play second fiddle to either Andre Onana or Altay Bayindir, but due to their frequent calamities, the Belgian was given his chance far sooner than imagined.

The 23-year-old was thrust into action against Sunderland, where his side won 2-0, and he hasn’t looked back since, now featuring in 12 matches in a row for the Reds.

Lammens’ agent admits U-turn

When speaking to Belgian outlet HBVL, via United In Focus, Lammens’ agent Mark Volders explained: “The big problem was that they expected a very well-known name, like [Gianluigi] Donnarumma or Emi Martinez.

“But actually, for a long time, the intention within United was for Onana to simply stay and for Senne to be given time to adjust.

“Ultimately, they only changed their minds at the very end. Onana left, and Senne was fully drawn. But in retrospect, you can only say that United were right about that.”

Onana only played one fixture for United, the Carabao Cup loss against Grimsby Town, where he put in a 0/10 performance, with United choosing to let the Cameroon international leave soon after.

It seems as if United made the right decision in the end, as Lammens has provided some much-needed consistency in goal for United since his introduction.

United building on summer success

For the first time in a long time, it seems as if United can claim that all of their summer signings have been a success, with all four of their acquisitions making their mark in some way or another.

Of their summer signings, Lammens’ impressive start is arguably the biggest surprise, given the fact that he was rather unheard of before his introduction to the Red Devils.

The Reds need to build on this success if they are to climb their way back to the top. They have so far managed to climb as high as sixth in the Premier League, but they will have their sights set on the Champions League spots.

Next up for United is a home fixture against bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers, where Lammens will be hoping for back-to-back clean sheets.
