Second Manchester United star considering Turkey move after André Onana loan, Rúben Amorim has final say

Manchester United may be sending a second player to Turkey on loan this week, although the final decision has been left to Rúben Amorim.

When the 2025 summer transfer window was drawing to a close, many assumed that Rúben Amorim had settled on his final squad for the 2025/26 season, with a few remaining outgoings set to be completed on deadline day.

However, in the final few days of the window, Manchester United suddenly pivoted their strategy to signing a new goalkeeper, securing Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens for an initial £18.2 million fee, leaving many to wonder why the club would have four senior goalkeepers on their payroll.

A week later, news broke that André Onana had received a loan offer from Turkish side Trabzonspor, which United initially accepted before the Cameroon international also chose to pursue the move.

While the window for many European sides has already slammed shut, the Turkish and Saudi Pro League windows still open for business.

Malacia contemplating Turkish loan move

Following Onana’s move to the Turkish Super Lig, his United teammate Tyrell Malacia is reportedly considering the same.

Malacia played 39 times during his debut season at Old Trafford, but has featured on just eight occasions since. He suffered a knee injury in May 2023 and missed 17 months of action before returning under Amorim and then heading on loan to PSV Eindhoven for the second half of last season.

According to talkSPORT, United have received a loan offer for Malacia from Eyüpspor, and the Dutchman is considering the move. However, with the Turkish window closing on Friday, he will have to make his decision fast.

During Malacia’s loan to PSV, he featured on just 12 occasions, and ahead of the 2026 World Cup, the 26-year-old left-back will want to be playing as many minutes as possible to have any shot of travelling across the Atlantic with the Netherlands next summer.

Final decision is up to Amorim

Although Malacia has to accept the move for the loan deal to go through, reports suggest that the final decision on his future will be left up to Amorim.

United signed a new left wing-back this summer in Diego Leon, but the 18-year-old is very raw and is likely to spend time floating between the U21s and first-team squad, leaving Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu as the squad’s only option on the left flank.

While Luke Shaw has also operated as a left-back for most of his career, Amorim clearly sees the Englishman as a centre-back in part of his back three, meaning there is genuine competition for Dorgu.

Although Malacia’s move is likely to go through, Amorim could also consider Malacia as a potential option to provide Dorgu with competition and a backup option in case of injury.
