Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly entered the complicated race to sign one Manchester United outcast this summer amid Rúben Amorim needing to raise funds.
Manchester United are preparing for a brutal summer overhaul as Rúben Amorim begins dismantling the current squad in a bid to spark a new era at Old Trafford.
Backed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, the club are ready to sanction the exits of at least ten senior players, launching one of the most aggressive rebuilds in United’s modern history.
Contract expiries will see Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans leave — but the real statement comes with plans to offload Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho, with sales expected to bring in over £100 million.
Even the futures of key figures like Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho are uncertain, as United embrace a ruthless approach in pursuit of long-term success.
Leverkusen enter the race for Sancho
According to the Sunday Mirror’s physical edition, Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have registered interest in signing Sancho this summer.
Leverkusen are themselves looking to completely rebuild their project this summer, with manager Xabi Alonso and star forward Florian Wirtz both set to leave the club this summer.
With Wirtz’s likely departure in mind, the German side have reportedly earmarked Sancho as his replacement amid his continued struggles at United but fantastic form previously with Borussia Dortmund.
According to the Sunday Mirror, United would allow Sancho’s fee to fall below £20 million in order to secure his transfer away from Old Trafford.
Sancho’s situation is becoming very complicated
Sancho is currently spending his season on loan at Premier League rivals Chelsea, who have the obligation to pay £25 million for him this summer, although, according to the Sunday Mirror, the London side have already decided they will pay United the £5 million fee to get out of the deal.
With this in mind, Sancho’s situation is becoming increasingly complicated, as there is no room for him to return to Old Trafford.
Sancho initially departed United due to a falling out with former boss Erik ten Hag, but it’s unlikely United would allow the player to reenter the club and slot him into Amorim’s team, as he is deemed damaged goods.
United need to raise as much as they can for the player this summer, but Chelsea’s reported decision to pay £5 million to not sign him plus his exile from Old Trafford dramatically decreases his value.
However, Leverkusen are not the only side interested in Sancho. His former side, Dortmund, are said to be interested in bringing the player back to Signal Iduna Park for the third time in his career, which could help drive up Sancho’s price.
