Saturday’s Premier League results are brilliant for Manchester United
Manchester United have been handed a brilliant set of Premier League results as they prepare to face Leeds United on Sunday.
Manchester United’s main aim this season, at least in the Premier League, was to finish in the top four and secure Champions League qualification.
Erik ten Hag’s squad currently sit in third place on the league table – largely thanks to Newcastle United’s 1-1 draw against Bournemouth.
The teams surrounding United, comprised of Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle, and Tottenham Hotspur, are all vying for those Champions League spots; although it’s safe to say Arsenal and City will remain in the top four once the season concludes.
Chelsea, Brighton and Liverpool are also outside contenders to claim a Champions League spot, however, the chances of any of those sides getting into the top four are becoming increasingly slim.
During the Saturday lunchtime kick-off, Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham United. Despite scoring three goals during the first half, two of them were chalked off for offside. West Ham also had an 86th minute winner ruled out for offside.
Continuing looking below United on the table, Tottenham Hotspur fell to an embarrassing defeat to Leicester City.
After taking the lead through Rodrigo Bentancur in the 14th minute, Nampalys Mendy and James Maddison hit back twice in quick succession (23rd and 25th minute) to take the lead.
Kelechi Iheanacho added a third just before half time and Harvey Barnes rounded the fixture off in the closing stages with Leicester’s fourth of the game.
Heading into the top four, Newcastle United’s Saturday evening fixture against Bournemouth ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Cherries took a lead bang on thirty minutes, with Marcos Senesi putting one past Nick Pope. Miguel Almiron, however, replied for the Magpies, scoring just before half time.
With Manchester City and Manchester United both playing on Sunday, the two clubs with be looking to take advantage of Arsenal’s draw against Brentford – which saw Ivan Toney cancel out Leandro Trossard second half strike.
Manchester United will take on Leeds United at Elland Road, in part two of their week-long battle. The two sides fought to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday night.
