San Marino defender blasts ‘disappointment’ Rasmus Hojlund after Man United forward’s complaints
Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund was left furious with the Saan Marino team after Denmark’s 2-1 victory on Tuesday evening.
Hojlund, 20, scored the opening goal of the night but was replaced minutes before the final whistle after several tackles throughout the game.
The United summer signing complained after the game, accusing the San Marino defenders of intentionally going out to injure him in the match. “I feel they targetted me,” he said. “I understand Italian and I could hear than saying that they had the idea to crush me.”

Hojlund, whose debut at Old Trafford was delayed due to a back injury, also shared an image of Roberto Di Maio mistiming a tackle which resulted in the defender’s knee going into Hojlund’s lower back. “You can see from the images that he only had one idea in mind,” he added.
The United striker added, via his Instagram story: “We do so much everyday to be the best version of yourself and keep fit for so many games. This behaviour from San Marino last night, trying to injure me was unacceptable!”
However, defender Maio has hit back at the complaints from the United forward and labelled him an ’embarrassment’ and that he would not have handled the professional game previously, in a social media response to the 20-year-old.
The 41-year-old response to Hojlund on Instagram, which has been roughly translated, says: “Today I read that Mr 80 million is complaining because yesterday he received less than great treatment from the defenders of San Marino.
“Well, dear, probably in football like today, where physical contact has disappeared, you can allow yourself to make fun of us little opponents with ugly and repeated gestures or to simulate at every opportunity, hoping for the VAR for a penalty.
“I would have liked to see you 15 years ago when only real men played football! You were a disappointment, Hojlund. Good luck.”
