Ruud van Nistelrooy sends Man Utd message to Leicester City fans after Premier League move
Ruud van Nistelrooy has sent a Manchester United-related message to Leicester City fans after his move to the Premier League club was confirmed.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as Leicester City manager this week following the dismissal of Steve Cooper earlier this month.
The Foxes, currently 16th in the Premier League table, have turned to Van Nistelrooy to help steer them clear of relegation.
After managing PSV Eindhoven’s first team for a year, Van Nistelrooy joined Manchester United this summer as an assistant to Erik ten Hag.
He later stepped into the role of interim manager at Old Trafford following Ten Hag’s departure, enjoying a successful spell with three wins and a draw in four games. Notably, two of those victories came against The Foxes.
Despite expressing his desire to remain at United as part of Ruben Amorim’s coaching staff, Van Nistelrooy was moved on after Amorim opted to bring in his own backroom team.
His impressive interim tenure at United, combined with his experience in the Eredivisie, made him a strong contender for several managerial roles and he ultimately chose to take on the challenge at Leicester, aiming to revitalise the newly promoted club.
“I’m proud, I’m excited. Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic,” Van Nistelrooy told Leicester City’s club media on Friday.
“They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the Club, the supporters and, of course, the recent history of the Club is impressive.
“I’m excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the Football Club.”
Van Nistelrooy also explained to his club’s new supporters that the two games against Leicester during his time as interim boss at United has given him a great head-start in his assessment of the squad.
“Preparing those two games against Leicester, that’s where you get to study the opponent, and their qualities – and also where you can hurt them,” the United legend continued.
“Of course, that gave a broader picture of the squad and the team, and the behaviours of the players. After that, the interest was shown, and I started to look even further into the games and looking to improve.
“Where can we improve and where do we have to improve to stabilise, to start growing, to start collecting more points? That’s what I did, and I trust the squad that we can manage that.”
United fans will be hoping to see Van Nistelrooy succeed in his new job–barring any games he plays against the Reds. His first outing comes against West Ham on Tuesday evening.
