Manchester United legend and Erik ten Hag’s new assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has given one attacking star “a lot of praise” during pre-season.

Van Nistelrooy rejoined United this summer alongside fellow coach Rene Hake to help revamp Ten Hag’s coaching setup.

The former striker scored 150 goals for the club during his five-year stint as a player. Many were excited to see his influence on the likes of Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

However, various reporters who have attended the pre-season tour have highlighted Van Nistelrooy’s impact on the defensive side of training as well.

Yet, one attacking player seems to have caught the eye of the iconic Dutchman during the preparations for next season.

Amad Diallo has shined during the friendly games so far, particularly against Rangers when he scored a brilliant goal from the right-hand side.

Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy has detailed that Van Nistelrooy has been giving the 22-year-old a lot of praise during the attacking drills in training.

Amad has also been looking sharp during the sessions at the UCLA and it is expected that Ten Hag rewards him with a start against Fulham in the opening weekend of Premier League fixtures.

“He’s such an exciting player. I think he’s going to get a lot more minutes this season because we really saw how he could spark the attack,” began Reddy.

“He’s been looking really sharp in training. Ruud van Nistelrooy, in the attacking drills, has been giving him a lot of praise.

“So (it will be) interesting to hear how this conditioning phase has gone for him and what he expects for himself this season.”

Amad excelled during the back end of last season and has overtaken Antony in the pecking order at right wing.
