Ruud van Nistelrooy has set a deadline for his next coaching decision after being approached by Manchester United to join Erik ten Hag’s staff.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, 47, had a prolific five-year spell at Manchester United, netting 150 goals in 219 matches.

After retiring in 2012, the Dutchman embarked on a coaching career, starting with PSV Eindhoven as a youth coach in 2016.

He ascended to the role of first-team manager in 2022, leading PSV to two trophies before leaving at the season’s end due to insufficient management support. Van Nistelrooy is now exploring new opportunities.

According to Fabrizio Romano, he has been approached to join Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff at Manchester United.

Van Nistelrooy faces a decision, as Burnley are also interested in appointing him as their head coach. Changes are anticipated in Manchester United’s coaching team.

Various outlets had previously reported that INEOS wanted to change Ten Hag’s coaching unit, with Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren as his two assistants.

Now, latest reports from AdNl have stated that the Dutchman has had positive talks with United and is set to rejoin the club as Ten Hag’s new assistant coach.

Caught Offside have reported that the club legend will make his final decision on his future and whether he will rejoin the Old Trafford side next week.

If he were to return to the club, Van Nistelrooy would be able to help Rasmus Højlund with his development as a no.9, and he could also potentially be aiding an exciting Dutch talent.

Joshua Zirkzee is heavily linked with a United move, with the club preparing to activate the £34 million release clause in his Bologna contract.
