Ruben Amorim’s preferred striker target for Manchester United is becoming increasingly clear after his latest demand to Jason Wilcox has emerged.
With the signing of Bryan Mbeumo now complete, Manchester United are turning their attention to the pursuit of a new centre-forward.
Ruben Amorim will be encouraged by the additions of Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo, two players expected to inject fresh energy into United’s attack.
Still, there remains a clear need for a natural No.9, especially following last season’s challenges in that position, where neither Rasmus Hojlund nor Joshua Zirkzee managed to fully convince.
United are currently exploring several options for the role, though many of their targets are attracting interest from other clubs as they weigh up their next move ahead of the new campaign.
Amorim boss sends United striker demand to Wilcox
According to a new report from MailSport, the plan for United’s next transfer is to secure a no.9 to finish the revamp of the attack at Old Trafford.
But it was also added that Amorim ‘is keen’ for that next signing to be another player with Premier League experience under their belt.
Much has been made of United signing Mbeumo and Cunha, two players who are proven in England’s top flight, and it looks like Amorim is desperate for Jason Wilcox to make it three.
United have only signed three Premier League players – Mason Mount, Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka since 2019, barring any loans or backup goalkeeper additions.
Amorim’s demand leaves two main options for United
This demand from Amorim makes the potential signing at Old Trafford increasingly clear as there are not many Premier League striker options on the market.
Nicolas Jackson and Ollie Watkins are the two main centre-forwards being linked with a move to the Reds, and Alejandro Garnacho could potentially be used as part of a deal with either Chelsea or Aston Villa.
But with the Blues seemingly pricing Jackson at over £60 million, it seems like Watkins – who is much more proven in the division – could be the preferred option.
The England international is also reportedly open to the move and it could be something that develops later in the transfer window once sales are made at Old Trafford.
