Ruben Amorim’s reaction to one of the mistakes made by a Manchester United star against Arsenal has been revealed and he was certainly not pleased.
Manchester United kicked off their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.
While the result didn’t go their way, Ruben Amorim could still draw encouragement from certain aspects of the performance, particularly the displays of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
New arrival Benjamin Šeško began the match among the substitutes, having had just a week of training with the squad at Carrington. He came on and made a positice impression.
But there were some underwhelming displays in the game and Amorim was visibly frustrated by one mistake made in the final minutes of the clash.
Amorim’s reaction to United star’s ‘frustrating’ mistake vs Arsenal
United were pushing hard for an equaliser late in the game and Arsenal were struggling to deal with the pressure from the hosts.
But Mikel Arteta’s side are brilliant at game-management. Ben White was skinned by Cunha before a chance happened for United and then was mysteriously injured for a couple of minutes afterwards, which allowed his teammates to re-group.
And while the Premier League are now implementing the eight-second rule for goalkeepers when the ball is in their hands, that doesn’t stop David Raya taking 45 seconds for a goal-kick.
Manuel Ugarte, a second-half substitute for the Reds, played into Arsenal’s hands perfectly when he fired an ambitious shot into the Stretford End despite having tons of space after a smart Šeško flick.
“That was a big moment in the game from Ugarte, it was 87 minutes more or less, and it just didn’t come close to the target,” said Andy Mitten on the Talk of the Devils podcast.
“You just need more patience. There was a ball out to Amad at that point,” host Ian Irving continued.
“Amorim was right in front of where I was sat because I was in the pitch-side position and you could see the frustration that came out of him at that point because United had the pressure on.”
Ugarte’s cameo was disappointing
Unfortunately for Ugarte, that wasn’t the only momentum-halting moment he caused in his 30 minute cameo against the Gunners.
Unaware of his surroundings, the midfielder passed the ball straight to Kai Havertz when attempting a back-pass, and he also committed several needless fouls which allowed Arsenal to waste more time.

Kobbie Mainoo was left as an unused substitute, which frustrated some fans, but Ugarte seemed to do all he could to convince Amorim that it was the wrong decision.
Unless he has a sudden upturn in form, the Uruguayan seems unlikely to get many more minutes heading into the coming fixtures.
