Rúben Amorim has waxed lyrical about one of Manchester United’s £70 million Matheus Cunha alternative, with the boss said to be “very fond” of the player.
Manchester United are preparing for a trip to the south coast this weekend as Rúben Amorim’s side face an in-form Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds will be eager to avenge their 3-0 defeat to Andoni Iraola’s men at Old Trafford late last year, with Amorim hoping for a much stronger showing this time around.
United’s most recent Premier League match ended in frustration, as a stunning late free-kick from Pablo Sarabia handed Wolverhampton Wanderers a 1-0 win and denied André Onana a clean sheet.
Despite their domestic struggles, United’s main focus is now on their upcoming Europa League semi-final against Athletic Bilbao, with a place in next season’s Champions League and an additional £85 million in funding on the line.
Amorim wary of Bournemouth trio
Speaking ahead of the fixture, Amorim was very quick to praise a Bournemouth trio who he has recognised as being major threats to his United side this coming weekend.
Asked how big of a challenge facing Bournemouth is considering United’s upcoming tie against Bilbao, the boss said: “It is massive because one thing is they press a lot.
“He [Iraola] has something to fight for in this moment with European nights and we know the quality of the squad, of the manager, the way they play, the way they press, the one against one they have, the mobility of Evanilson, [Justin] Kluivert, [Antoine] Semenyo, so it is going to be a really tough match and we have to be really focused on this game.
“Because, here, every game is really important and we need to win games in the Premier League. But, of course, in certain details, we have to focus not just on this game, but also the next one.”
Amorim is very fond of Semenyo
Just like Amorim’s praise for Matheus Cunha last week, it is no surprise to see the United head coach wax lyrical about Semenyo.
As per muitple transfer reports, United are one club who very much appreciate the Ghanaian international, with Amorim himself said to be “very fond” of the player.
While Cunha is United’s main target for the left forward position this summer, Semenyo is another name on the list who could be pursued, although it’s thought the player would cost around £70 million to sign this summer, which is even more than Cunha’s £62.5 million fee.
However, it has been previously suggested that United may be able to offset a significant portion of that fee with add-ons, rather than a high initial fee, with Bournemouth willing to engage in negotiations to find a compromise with whichever club they believe may be a suitable destination for the 25-year-old.
