Ruben Amorim suggests Man United could sign Sporting star who can “play for any team in the world”
Ruben Amorim has suggested that Manchester United could sign one Sporting star, who he believes can play for any club in the world.
Manchester United welcomed new head coach Ruben Amorim to the club this week, with Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox and Dan Ashworth welcoming him to Carrington on Monday.
The 39-year-old met with several United players on Tuesday, including Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo, as he prepares to get right into action.
His first game comes in just under two weeks time against Ipswich Town in the Premier League away from home.
Amorim’s introduction has been much anticipated due to his success in the Liga Portugal with Sporting, where he has won two titles in recent seasons.
Some have wondered whether he might take a leaf out of Erik ten Hag’s book and bring some of his Sporting players with him to Old Trafford in upcoming transfer windows.
While the head coach has ruled out any moves in January, he did not do the same when asked about the summer transfer market next year.
“I won’t sign (any of them) in January, that’s what I said,” he told reporters last week. “In the summer, I don’t know. We’ll see…”
One player who he could make a move for is attacking talent Pedro Goncalves, who has been a crucial member of Amorim’s Sporting team.
Amorim has recently offered big praise to the 26-year-old and suggested that he could ‘take him anywhere’, suggesting a potential future transfer.
“He can play for any team in the world and with any player, because he is a great player,” the new United boss said. “I could take him anywhere.”
Goncalves has made 190 appearances for Sporting since joining the club in the summer of 2020. In that time, he has 81 goals and 57 assists.
So far this season, the Portuguese forward has registered 11 goal contributions in 12 games.
